Wisdom Teeth Extractions

dentist chairs in bright room

We understand that any dental procedure can be daunting, especially larger ones like wisdom tooth extraction. At Greenslopes Dental we offer sedation to help calm the nerves. This also means that you won’t feel the pain of having a tooth removed, just some pressure and pulling.

The signs that you may need to have your wisdom teeth can vary, so we recommend that if you start to feel any sort of pain in that area then discuss it with one of our friendly dentists. Otherwise, coming in for regular check-ups will allow us to monitor your wisdom teeth.

Dr Ken Pih is our wisdom teeth expert. With over 20 years of experience, he understands that each patient is different and will ensure that you are comfortable and at ease during the extraction process. He has travelled across the world practicing dentistry so you will be in good hands.

Once we have established that you should have your wisdom teeth removed, we will discuss your options. Generally, we recommend getting them removed in the chair with sedation. Not only is this a simpler option, it’s also more affordable than going under general anesthesia.

When you have decided which option to go with, we can have a consultation to discuss the procedure, your recovery, and the after-care.

After being sedated you won’t be able to drive, so organising someone to take you home will be necessary. The effects of the sedation may take hours to completely wear off, so be careful with hot foods and chewing. You’ll most likely need to stick with soft foods for 24-48 hours after the procedure, depending on how speedy of a recovery you experience. You’ll be able to brush your teeth as usual just be more gentle, especially towards the back where the stitches will be located.

The recovery process can take a few days, so you may need to take some time off. This makes holidays the perfect time to get this procedure done. If you’re a uni student, holidays tend to come earlier than work and schools, making it the perfect opportunity to get them out before the end of year rush.
