The Process Of Getting Veneers

The Process Of Getting Veneers

Veneer Dentist Brisbane

Smile self-consciousness is real. Over half of all Aussies are insecure about their smile, and two-thirds of them actually want to change their teeth.

If you’re one of these people unhappy with the way your smile looks, the good news is that custom veneers can change the game. For those not familiar with veneers, think of them as a porcelain shell that sits on the surface of your teeth, working to smooth out your smile. More and more people are opting for veneers to fix chipped, crooked, discoloured or irregular teeth. Unlike more invasive dental or cosmetic procedures, the process of getting dental veneers is pretty straightforward. For those thinking about it, here are some things to know about the procedure. You can find out more about what veneers are here.

Expect a few trips to the dentist. Getting veneers will require you to make a few visits to our dentists. This is to help ensure your veneers give you the results you want. First up is an initial consultation, where we will examine your teeth, discuss your dream smile and make plans to create your new veneers. This will likely involve dental x-rays as well as an assessment of your teeth and bite.

Getting the teeth ready. Appointment two is when our dentists will begin to trim some enamel from your teeth to help make room for the veneers. Typically, only a very small amount of tooth enamel is removed (about ½ mm or less). Our dentists will apply a local anaesthetic, so you won’t be in any pain or discomfort.

A perfect fit. We’ll then take a mould of your teeth, which will be used to create your custom porcelain veneers. In the meantime, you’ll be given some temporary veneers to try out, so you can assess the fit, colour and shape of your new look. Keep in mind that not all veneers are created the same, so the colour of your veneer will depend on a few factors. Our dentists will help you select a porcelain that matches the colour of your surrounding teeth. You can also consider your skin tone, eye colour and how different shades of veneers will look on you.

The finished product. Finally, it’s the bonding process— the veneer will be placed over your original tooth, trimmed to perfection and then attached to the surface of the tooth. Some cleaning and polishing, and your new smile is good to go.

The length of your visit will depend on how many veneers you’re having placed (some people may just get a single veneer) but expect to be in the chair for an hour or two. There might be some discomfort or sensitivity as the veneers are bonded to the teeth, but getting veneers isn’t a painful process.
